This project was in partnership with the governing body for differently-abled athletes in the Philippines, the PhilSPADA – National Paralympic Committee, and managed by FICS Foundation Board member Dr Martin Camara. Dr Camara is a Palmer College West graduate who practices in Manila, capital city of the Philippines and who also serves as a member of the Medical Commission of the Philippines Olympic Committee.
The three chosen para-powerlifting athletes given support, two women and one man, have considerable international experience already but required funding and other support to qualify for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. They are Adeline Ancheta and Achelle Guion (see photos), and Augustin Kiton, a silver medalist at the 7th ASEAN Para Games.
The FICS Foundation provided a 6 month monthly training stipend from November 2015, funding to attend qualifying competitions, coaching assistance as approved by the athletes’ Head Coach and volunteer complimentary chiropractic care.
